asp HTTP 500 error

Hello there,

I have created a login page for users. The login page contain <FORM action="verifyuser.asp" method="post">. The verifyuser page verify that the user exist in the database. All the pages, home, login, memberspage, updatemember, seems to be working properly except for the verifyuser page. This is the code for the page:

Whenever I try to login a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error appears... I have no idea whether that caused by the codes or because I'm using Vista? Thanks

If I recall, HTTP 500 is a login/security error.

On another VERY important point.

Assuming the above error is corrected, What do you think would be the result if the user were to type the following in the UserName textbox on the Login.asp page? (Type the characters between the square brackets.)

Eleven characters. This is a widely known and significant security breach that many web developers make -you are not alone...

An even worst mistake is that you are using the 'sa' account - for after the 'hacker' uses the above exploit, he/she is in your database operating under the 'sa' account. At that moment, the hacker 'owns' your database, and your entire server and all other databases on the server. And depending upon your network security, he/she may be able to access other servers and resources on your network.

Yes, you have another redirect, but that is a minor inconvenience to a hacker...

Is the first row in the users table the administrator? Quite often the case...

Suddenly not feeling too comfortable, wondering if your rsum needs updating, thinking that now might be a good time to start that other business you've been dreaming about?

AS2005 OWC11 HTTP - Connection Problem.

I am trying to get an OWC11 pivot table ActiveX component to work over the internet with AS2005. I have read so many articles, and I have moved forward, but there doesn't seem to be any final answer.

Here is the set up. 1 Server that is running IIS6, WIN2003, SQL2005/SP1. I set up the connection string as

I set up the HTTP pump described in this article: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/httpasws.mspx

I set up an IUSR role for the cube to be read.

I set up SQL and AS for remote access over TCP/IP.

I even set the AS2005 for anonymous access. I wll turn this back after the test.

Everything works fine at the intranet level, but as soon as I'm outside the domain.. boom, it won't connect.. I ran the SQL profiler, and gotten the cryptic XML parsingg error for IUSR log-in. At any rate, I'm all out of ideas and tricks.

I saw similar lines of discussion, but never a successful conclusion as of yet. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

|||I went into same problem long ago, what i did was giving the IUSR a permission on the Analysis server. I think its a bad idea, but as you said, I was running out of ideas "any comment is welcomed". I have some issues regarding initializing the Pivote table client side, its some how slow. Any ideas are welcomed|||

I am not sure what you mean by instaling OLEDB 9 solves your problem.In my case,I can see the embeded Pivot table and the Pivot table field list.But am not seeing the dimensions.Rather an icon with a plug is shown.I am able to acces the ms.asp page on the <ip> server. Is there any way to debug and find out the problem.

AS2000 only using 2GB even when /3GB is activated

I've done everything to enable the use of more than 2GB memory for AS 2000 according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295443
Still, according to the task manager, the process msmdsrv.exe stops growing around 1 996 000 kB.

I've added the /3GB in boot.ini and set the Memory Conservation Threshold in Analysis Manager to 2.7 gb.
I've also checked that the HighMemoryLimit was set accordingly in the registry.

OS: Windows 2003 server Enterprise Edition
Memory: 3 GB
AS2000 sp4

Any other settings/limitiation I've missed?

Do you have AS2000 EE? or STD? Std. edition does't support /3GB option.|||Actually Standard Edition of AS2000 does support /3GB. Sorry for asking - but you did reboot after modifying boot.ini, right ?|||

Actually, later today the memory usage finally past 2GB, obviously it wasn't needed until then. I stayed at 1.9 so long even though users were querying it heavily so I thought it didn't work. Thanks, and sorry.

One related follow-up question though: when AS gets out of memory while processing cubes it automatically reboots and we get the "Connection to server is lost" when the transaction is to be commited. Will the same thing happen if AS reach the memory limit while users are querying the cube? Will the service be rebooted and queries be aborted, or will it just show as worse performance for the users? Or will AS free up memory automatically when we're getting close to the memory limit?

|||Server restart is not a normal thing. During commit though, when it half-way through commiting, and there is any kind of error happening (like out of memory), it can no longer go back, but it cannot leave transaction half-commited either. So AS simply restarts, and finishes commit on restart. This kind of restart won't happen if out-of-memory happens during querying.

I'm not so sure...the instability in the world, coupled with the inability to meet deadlines are making persauvie arguments...

You need to understand deflationary economics. As more and more jobs get exported theres two primary effects. Firstly overall the workforce deskills over time. Secondly, because there are fewer jobs, theres less money in the economy, meaning overall people buy fewer things. The fall in demand for stuff, forces the price of stuff down, so in order to still make profit from making stuff, companies export even more jobs in order to get costs down. This is a self-reinforcing downward spiral.

Conversely, in the places the jobs get imported to, the increase in salaried workers means overall theres more money in the economy, meaning the demand to buy stuff rises. As Chinese people understand the culture, language and alphabet of China infinitely better than any westerner, the profitability of local Chinese enterprises rises.

The key measure of time in computing is the technology refresh cycle, which in the US and EU has been lengthened by the dotcom recession. Conversely in the job importing countries, technology refresh is accelerating to the benefit of local suppliers. India is investing very heavily in Linux based solutions because it gives them a financial out of paying tax to Wintel. Over two technology refresh cycles, the balance of innovation will reach the catastrophe pivot and the lead in computing innovation will have left the US and left it permanently. The combined markets of China, India and Asia-Pacific outweigh all the US and EU put together.

There needs to be a re-alignment in corporate thinking regarding the purpose and function of the western Company if the 21st Century is not to be the Asia-Pacific Century. Its the quality of US and western management that needs to change, not the price of jobs.|||Originally posted by Brett Kaiser

Since the current dogma has been generated by college professors the change would have to start there, and since our education system has become a wink-and-nod organization without any real objection how will this change come about. Well, for sure memory prices for computers would jump through the roof.|||By all accounts, if India and Pakistan "go at it" in any meaningful way, India will border on Afghanistan, and pretty quick, too.

Well, this has happened to the Steel industry, the Shoe industry in Boston, and the Textile industry in the northeast as a whole. Ironically, the textile industry moved to the American South, and the shoe industry made a short layover in Italy, before heading on to Asia. The one business truth you can get out of this is that companies will do business as cheaply as possible.

As for the candidates proposals...

Kerry's proposal of making call centers announce where the call center is before continuing the call? What exactly is that supposed to do? Take up another 10 - 20 seconds of time, while I wait for an answer to a possibly production down problem? Does it help me to know where the guy is, so long as the guy helping me is competent? Besides that, if a company does business in say India, and is selling its helpdesk services to a company in America, would they truly be bound by such a law? The employee and direct employer are both in India.

Dean: This is a bit unrelated. Moving a "headquarters" to the off-shore for tax reasons is not the same as outsourcing. In some extreme cases, the off-shore "headquarters" consists of one person to answer the phone and connect people to the building (in America) where the CEO actually works.

As for me, my direct experiences with off-shore help have been mixed at best. Just the same as my experiences with the college-hire newbs that this company keeps calling programmers.|||Originally posted by MCrowley

ARe: Problems after the install of the Hotfix

After installing SP1 and then the hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=918222

We now get the following error when trying to work with date parameters in Report Builder:

Query (6, 117) The '[VBA].[DateSerial]' function does not exist.

Semantic query execution failed.

Query execution failed for data set 'dataSet'.

An error has occurred during report processing.

Is this a known problem or is there some sort of something that I can reinstall?

Sure thing. The problem comes with the prompted Transaction Date MDY. Without this parameter, it runs fine.

We've never seen this error message before. Do you have any other servers where this report runs? Did it run on pre-SP1 bits?

Ok, I can't figure what exactly happens, and can't repro it.
Could you please modify ReportServer Web.Config:
<add name="Components" value="all,RunningJobs:3,SemanticQueryEngine:4,SemanticModelGenerator:2" />

and rerun the report (repro the problem). Then take the latest ReportServer__timestamp.log and see if there are any interesting stack traces at the end of the file?

I am not rushing you because I didn't think you were checking into it. I thought you might not have any ideas and it was time to punt. If we do I will try adding the hotfix again after we reinstall sql server with SP1 just to see if it was the hotfix.

Yes, it did. They had a training class and there are quite a few of these reports from that class. So after I added the hotfix, we were testing things to see if they worked, and this was one of the few things that didn't. We are really pushing Report Builder to our clients to give them an ad hoc tool (for a great price :) but then we got this error.

I changed the setting, and it does show issues. I bolded what I thought were interesting. I should also note that our server is on the G: drive and not in C: (I didn't install it, and that person is gone now)

Basically we are taking a date dimension, then choosing the MDY Date format, choosing greater than, or something like that, right clicking the criteria and choosing Prompt. Then I run the report, click the date pick object, choose any date, and click run report. It starts to run then does this. To make sure it wasn't just upgraded reports, Tonight I took a dimension, chose two measures, and filtered like this on a date, same error.

This looks like a problem in AS server which is being called by semantic query engine to execute the final (MDX) query. I will forward this to AS ppl for further analysis.

Totally thanks for your help. I figured this was something wierd.

Do you think it will take long to get something started on correcting it? I can probably only leave the server in this state another day or two before the hounds attack and we reinstall :)

If you insalled SQL server on disk C then there should be a folder like: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\bin, which contains the binaries for the AS server. That folder should contain msmdvbanet.dll.

The data folder (like C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data) should contain folders like VBAMDX.0.asm and VBAMDXINTERNAL.0.asm. It should also contan files like VBAMDX.0.asm.xml and VBAMDXINTERNAL.0.asm.xml.

If something of the above is missing please let us know.

I should mention that we are running on an instance named BI.

We didn't install it on C: (even though our norm is to install program files on c: and data on other drives ).

In c:\program files\microsoft sql server we only have: 80, 90

on G:\MSSQL\MSSQL.1\OLAP\bin

there is an msmdvbanet.dll

on H:\MSSQL$BI\AnalysisData\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data

there is a VBAMDX.0.asm.xml file, and in it is a listing for:

G:\MSSQL$BI\MSSQL.2\OLAP\bin\msmdvbanet.dll

There is a G:\MSSQL$BI\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services, but no MSSQL.2, or any other number (I understand the numbering well enough)

It appears that we had a quite non-standard setup and the hotfix didn't take that into consideration. Let me know if you want me to send you the contents of any files. I think we are going to rebuild soon.

When you run the named BI instance, is it configured to run from G:\MSSQL$BI\MSSQL.2\OLAP\bin ?

Just one instance. And it was the only one installed (I am trying to force everyone to get used to working with instances).

Actually the service (Named MSOLAP$BI, SQL Server Analysis Services (BI)) is running:

G:\MSSQL\MSSQL.1\OLAP\bin\msmdsrv.exe -s "G:\MSSQL\MSSQL.1\OLAP\Config"

Or did you want something else?
